On Saturday, September 26, 2026, The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration declared Bangkok a disaster-affected area after nearly 300 mm (12 inches) of rain fell over 48 hours, causing severe flooding on major roads. Some cars were left partly submerged due to the heavy rainfall. In response, Thailand's cabinet approved September 28 and 29 as special holidays for civil servants in Bangkok and three surrounding provinces to reduce travel and ease traffic disruptions. This decision could delay a court ruling on electoral ballots used in February's election, potentially putting the election results in doubt. As of Sunday, September 27, floodwater had receded but some residents remained stranded in their homes.
