In 1900, Sir George Bullough built Kinloch Castle, a neo-Gothic structure on Rum Island, Scotland, as a private retreat. It became famous for hosting lavish parties attended by socialites and royalty until it was sold to the government in 1957. In 2025, NatureScot, which acquired the castle from the state, put it up for sale with an asking price of £750,000. NatureScot recently revealed they are in legal talks with a preferred bidder who plans to transform the property into a boutique hotel. However, before finalizing the deal, conservationists and island residents must be assured that the building's fabric will be preserved and that necessary repairs costing at least £10 million will be undertaken.
