A senior Cuban official, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, warned against potential US military action on his country during an interview with C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. He described such actions as an "atrocious international crime," emphasizing Cuba's peaceful nature and sovereignty. This statement came after President Donald Trump, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), suggested that “freedom will be coming” to Cuba, causing the Cuban delegation to leave the hall in protest. The day before, Trump had also hinted at military intervention when he said "I don’t think we’ll need the military," adding that "Cuba is failing very badly." De Cossio further criticized US sanctions, which he views as economic coercion aimed at destabilizing Cuba’s economy and health care system over nine months, affecting fuel supply and trade.
