In December 2023, Kylie Ellina Truswell-Mobbs, 52, administered a lethal dose of painkillers to her husband David Ronald Mobbs, 56, who was suffering from an aggressive form of motor neurone disease. Initially charged with murder and facing potential life imprisonment, Truswell-Mobbs pleaded guilty to aiding suicide in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday, leading to a two-year suspended sentence. The court accepted that her actions were motivated by love and compassion for her husband's suffering, as his condition had deteriorated rapidly over several months, leaving him unable to walk or move independently and requiring constant care. Outside the courtroom, Truswell-Mobbs was greeted with cheers from supporters who acknowledged the exceptional circumstances she faced.
