WWE is squandering the legacy of John Cena by mishandling the careers of two rising stars, Dominik Mysterio and Gunther, who were previously elevated through their interactions with Cena. After Gunther defeated Cena in what was effectively Cena's retirement match at a significant event, he gained considerable heat from fans for his victory over one of wrestling’s most beloved figures. Gunther initially capitalized on this momentum by defeating A.J. Styles and Seth Rollins, major names in the industry.
However, Gunther's subsequent matches have not gone as planned. He lost to Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy and again when Zayn refereed their match on SmackDown. Gunther even watched helplessly as Zayn pinned Rhodes to become WWE champion ahead of him. Most recently, Gunther couldn't secure a victory in a tag team match alongside Zayn against Rhodes and CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event. These setbacks are viewed as a waste of the prestige that Cena originally bestowed upon them.
