The China Geological Survey organized a 30-day expedition using the world’s most powerful deep-ocean drilling ship, which reached depths of over 5,000 meters below sea level and more than 850 meters beneath the seafloor in the South China Sea. Operated by the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, the ship conducted operations at two sites, obtaining what was described as a "large number of precious core samples and data." The expedition aimed to test the operational capabilities of the advanced drilling vessel, with results published in the official ministry newspaper Science and Technology Daily.
