A school task force at Cornell University found that 35 percent of female undergraduate students reported experiencing sexual assault during their time on campus, along with 8 percent of male undergraduates. These findings, released in 2025, are now overshadowing a reopened criminal investigation into an alleged gang rape that occurred at the former Chi Phi fraternity house in 2024. The incident involved seven students who allegedly drugged and raped a woman. In response to a civil lawsuit filed on September 16, Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten announced that his office will present evidence to a grand jury regarding the alleged attack, highlighting the ongoing issue of sexual violence at Cornell.
