The Hong Kong Hospital Authority has implemented artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic automation at its new six-storey support services center in Tung Chung on Lantau Island to process laundry and produce meals for public hospitals. The 62,000-square-metre facility began operations in March last year and met about half of the city's public hospital needs as of Tuesday when it was first opened to the press. Key technologies include X-ray sorting, robotic arms, and cook-chill kitchen systems. An official noted that automation has significantly improved occupational safety by reducing repetitive strain and heavy lifting for workers.
