On Monday evening around 6 p.m., Yaw Boahene, 57, of Brooklyn, died after his shopping bag got trapped between closing doors of a northbound A-train as he was exiting the Utica Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Witnesses reported seeing him dragged backward by the train before falling onto the tracks and being struck by it. Emergency responders declared Boahene dead at the scene, with no criminality suspected. This incident is one of several rare but deadly subway accidents that have occurred recently in New York City, including an October 2022 case where a man died after his bag got caught in train doors.
