On September 22, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office received a welfare call and responded to a house off Highway 118 in Leslie, southwest Georgia. When they arrived around 8:30 AM, police found Emma R Handler, 89, deceased inside the home. Further investigation led them to discover William Womack, 68, nearby in the yard; he had reportedly been there for a week after collapsing while cutting grass. The official cause of death remains unknown as autopsies are ongoing, but authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected. The sheriff's office treated the situation as a death investigation and identified the victims as mother and son.
