On September 15, an abandoned campfire sparked the Yosemite Dome Fire, which has since burned about 5,500 acres and led to the closure of multiple trails and Glacier Point road in Yosemite National Park. The road was closed on September 23 due to reduced visibility caused by smoke from the fire and for firefighting operations. As of the latest update, more than a third of the fire has been contained, but it continues to run upslope with limited access. Sadly, two firefighting pilots, Greg King and Ryan Cutter, lost their lives battling this blaze. Crews held a ceremony in Modesto on September 27 to honor them. Despite extensive efforts by firefighters, no structures have yet been damaged by the fire.
