On Long Island, a father of two was fatally shot in a targeted attack at a park on July 12. Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina stated that surveillance cameras captured the suspect fleeing the scene in a red sedan and confirmed that the victim, Booker, knew his killer. No arrests have been made as of yet.
Exactly one week prior to the shooting, police had arrested seven individuals for trespassing at the park after dark, with four on outstanding warrants and three issued field appearance tickets. Soon after the incident, Booker was rushed to NYU Langone-Suffolk Hospital in East Patchogue, where he died from his injuries.
The violence continued when Booker's friend Emmanuel Mayo followed him to the hospital, leading to a confrontation with police there. Mayo allegedly resisted arrest and pushed an officer, prompting a lockdown at the facility until order was restored.
