The Humpty Doo Community & Child Care Centre in Darwin pleaded guilty to inadequately supervising children and failing to protect them from harm after the 2023 death of a 22-month-old toddler named Ebony Thompson. Casandra Harris, who was supposed to supervise Ebony's class but wasn't there that day because she was not rostered to work, also admitted to inadequately protecting children from hazards. Charges against another childcare worker, Gurmeet Kaur, have been dropped, while the centre’s director, Rachel Marsh, plans to contest similar charges and will return to court next month.
