HyImpulse, a UK-based rocket company, was granted a launch operator license by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate from SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst. The SR75 suborbital vehicle, designed to handle diverse weather conditions, is expected to be launched in spring 2027 for research purposes. Although the SR75 won't carry satellites, other companies plan to use SaxaVord for commercial satellite launches. HyImpulse also aims to launch an orbital rocket named SL1 from the spaceport in the future. CEO Christian Schmierer emphasized that securing this license validates years of work and meets stringent safety standards. Sue Kee, head of space applications at CAA, highlighted the growing UK space ecosystem supporting such initiatives.
