On Thursday in Oxford, Mississippi, police and EMS responded to a suspected drug overdose involving a 22-year-old individual who was not an Ole Miss student and survived the incident after being found unresponsive at around 5 a.m. Authorities discovered "synthetic kratom products" near the scene but stated that this case is unrelated to two separate deaths of Ole Miss students Aidan Hamilton (18) and Robert Strang (20), both occurring on September 21, where synthetic kratom was also found nearby. The police confirmed there's no indication the kratom products from Thursday’s incident were purchased locally in Oxford, emphasizing that the two recent student deaths are being treated as separate incidents.
