The Bangladesh government extended the official Durga Puja holidays for three days in response to longstanding demands from the Hindu community and to ensure safety following recent vandalism at a temple in Mirzapur. This extension, combined with regular weekend holidays, provides a total of five days off — from October 20 (navami) to October 24 — for the Hindu community. The government also increased funding for major puja mandaps by Tk 1 crore this year, bringing the total to Tk 5 crore (nearly Rs 4 crore), up from Tk 4 crore last year. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that security has been stepped up across national, divisional, district, and upazila levels, with 33,851 puja mandaps set up this year compared to 32,351 last year. Officials will use a mobile application for better monitoring during the festival to quickly respond to any incidents.
