On October 2, 2026, a Sri Lankan court in Colombo refused to issue arrest warrants for two Indian directors, Amit Katyal and Rajendra Prasad Gupta of Krish Hotels, in an alleged bribery case. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had requested the warrants but the chief magistrate denied issuance due to insufficient evidence, instructing CIABOC to submit a detailed report outlining evidence supporting the arrest warrants.
Opposition leader Namal Rajapaksa is currently in remand custody, accused of accepting 70 million Sri Lankan rupees as a bribe from Janaki Siriwardena, the local agent for Krish Hotels. The alleged bribery occurred around 2013 to secure key approvals for the stalled hotel project. Mr. Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was remanded until October 13, 2026.
