On August 15, Vilnius Airport in Lithuania closed after a drone alert prompted NATO's Baltic Air Policing jets to be scrambled. The suspected drone was flying between Lithuania and Belarus. This incident followed an attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany on August 4, where a remotely-controlled flying bomb packed with Semtex slammed into the wing of a stationary Antonov An-124 aircraft but failed to detonate. US intelligence suggested that Russian secret services were behind both incidents. Additionally, DNA found on the drone matched samples from an incendiary device hidden in a DHL parcel at Leipzig Airport two years ago, which also narrowly avoided detonation due to flight delays.
