At least 17 people, mostly Catholic pilgrims, were killed in a road crash involving multiple vehicles on the highway to Mombasa, Kenya, late at night. The incident occurred in the Salama area, approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Nairobi. A truck driver attempted to overtake another vehicle but lost control, leading to a collision that involved a van carrying pilgrims headed to a prayer site in Nakuru County. According to Kenyan authorities, the stretch of road is known as a “black spot” for safety concerns. President William Ruto expressed condolences to the victims' families and the Catholic community. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision.
