Sophie Cunningham, a forward for the Indiana Fever, criticized A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces after an incident during Game 2 of their WNBA playoff series in Indianapolis. Cunningham implied that Wilson received preferential treatment from the league when she was not suspended following her altercation with a fan who had pointed at her during the game. The incident occurred late in the Fever’s 99-89 victory over the Aces on October 1st, where Wilson engaged in a heated exchange with the fan. Cunningham argued that while women athletes demand equality and fair treatment, they sometimes handle issues inconsistently or unrealistically. She stated, “If you’re asking for all these fans to come, and you have new fans who are real sports fans, and they do something that a sports fan probably would do if you're on the opposing team, and we’re gonna go at 'em for pointing, like, ‘You fouled?’ Like, grow up.” The series ended with Las Vegas winning Game 3.
