On Sunday afternoon, police were called to Rugby, a town 84 kilometers north of Yass with a population of only 83 people, after reports that a car had crashed into a tree. Upon arrival at Corringle Lane, officers found a Chrysler station wagon in the crash and discovered an unconscious man inside. When police approached to provide aid, the man reportedly drew a rifle from the vehicle and pointed it directly at them, leading one of the police officers to shoot him multiple times. Despite immediate CPR efforts by the responding team, the man died at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Danny Di Biccari, who was a father-of-six. The incident is now under investigation by a critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command, overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), ensuring thoroughness and objectivity in the inquiry process.
