YouTuber PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, has unveiled a new AI model called Ajax designed for personal use. Unlike many large-scale cloud-based AI models, Ajax runs locally on users' devices through his self-hosted workspace platform Odysseus. Built using Alibaba's Qwen3.5-9B framework, which has around nine billion parameters, Ajax is significantly smaller and more focused on practical applications like web searches, email management, and calendar organization.
During the development of Ajax, Kjellberg faced challenges with OpenAI, which suspended his account twice; one suspension was explicitly linked to "distillation," a process allowed in some contexts but not universally permitted according to OpenAI's terms. Despite these hurdles, Kjellberg emphasizes that Ajax aims to enhance user privacy by keeping data processing local and minimizing reliance on external servers.
