Hezam Hussein, a 19-year-old Michigan resident, was killed on December 30 while trying to help victims of a car accident on the Southbound Lodge Freeway near Nine Mile Road. After noticing a two-vehicle collision that blocked two lanes, Hussein stopped his vehicle and attempted to assist those involved. He then crossed the freeway but was hit by another car swerving to avoid the initial crash. The Michigan State Police arrived at the scene at 11:39 PM, with emergency medical services from the Southfield Fire Department already providing CPR and life support to Hussein. Authorities report that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, and the driver responsible for striking Hussein remained on site and cooperated fully with investigators. The teenager's funeral was held in Dearborn, a city known for its large Islamic community where Hussein was part of.
