In response to the Tai Po fire that occurred last November, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu pledged to implement comprehensive reforms and pursue accountability as soon as possible after receiving an independent committee's report. The city leader announced that Hong Kong authorities have made "a series of preparations" ahead of the report, due later this month. A dedicated task force under the Public Service Commission has been established to investigate official failings linked to the blaze. Lee stated that he would act immediately on the recommendations from the independent committee led by a judge once the final report is received. The city's top decision-making body, the Executive Council, was informed of these plans before they were made public.
