In Jersey, residents are still facing difficulties obtaining credit cards despite recent changes that were supposed to make applications easier. As of July 30, the government was allowed to securely share personal data with UK credit reference agencies, previously identified as a major obstacle for successful applications. However, the Jersey Consumer Council reports that several providers continue to reject card applications and urges the government to collaborate more closely with banks to address this issue. The council’s Carl Walker suggests that credit card companies need to be reminded of the new legislation allowing greater data sharing and proposes an official letter from the government stating Jersey is now open for business, leaving it up to companies to decide if they want to offer their services there again.
