On Monday, an Australian Army soldier identified as Corporal Brendan Hannam, aged 28 and a father-of-two, died during a training exercise at the Mount Bundey Training Area, located approximately 130km southeast of Darwin in the Northern Territory. Five other soldiers were injured when a Supacat high-mobility vehicle overturned; two remained hospitalized on Tuesday. Corporal Hannam had previously served tours in Afghanistan and trained Ukrainian troops. The incident comes as part of a series of fatal training accidents within the Australian Army, including another death involving a mid-air collision in May 2026.
