On Monday morning near DuPont, Washington, a 35-year-old woman from Steilacoom allegedly deliberately crashed her SUV into a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 5. After the crash and rolling over her car, the woman threatened two girls with a knife; one victim was a 9-year-old who suffered multiple broken bones and a stab wound, while another 15-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. Two soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord intervened by tackling and disarming the assailant when bystanders failed to subdue her. The suspect is expected to face charges including two counts of assault, vehicular assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment after being booked into Pierce County Jail according to KING 5. Prosecutors allege that Janieka Ellington intentionally caused the accident and attempted to stab her daughters, believing they were being followed by unknown individuals.
