Kenny Albert, an NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA broadcaster for Fox Sports, was unexpectedly called as a replacement for Joe Davis during Game 3 of the NLDS between the Dodgers and Braves. This happened when Davis fell ill and lost his voice just before the game on Monday. The twist? Albert was in the middle of preparing for a colonoscopy at that moment, having already started taking medication to clean out his colon as part of pre-procedure preparation.
When Fox initially contacted him around 6 p.m., Albert had begun his prep but hadn't heard back by 9 p.m., so he proceeded with his first dose. It was close to midnight when Fox confirmed Albert needed to travel to Atlanta if called upon. He skipped the second dose and flew out early Tuesday morning, eventually joining the broadcast team in Atlanta and calling the game.
This unusual circumstance highlighted the unpredictable nature of broadcasting schedules and the need for broadcasters to be prepared for unexpected calls, even while managing personal health issues.
