Martin St. Louis, coach of the Montreal Canadiens, announced on Friday that goaltender Sam Montembeault will be out for 10 to 14 days due to an undisclosed injury sustained during practice on Wednesday. Originally scheduled to make his first start of the season against the Nashville Predators, Montembeault's absence forced the team to call up Jacob Fowler from the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League. In his debut, Fowler allowed three goals on 18 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Predators.
Montreal's goaltending issues have been ongoing this season, with starter Jakub Dobes posting a disappointing record of 1-1-1 and averages of 4.43 goals against and .857 save percentage through four games. The team currently sits at 1-2-1 in the standings and faces Detroit on Saturday night.
