China used dancing robots and robotic dogs to showcase its technological advancements during events in Luanda, Angola, and Brazzaville, Congo. The performances were aimed at marketing China as a technology partner in Africa. In Luanda, Ambassador Zhang Bin highlighted the industry as "a small snapshot of the Chinese economy’s move towards innovation and higher-quality development." However, it remains unclear whether these demonstrations will lead to actual business deals. Similar events also took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, featuring interactions between guests and a robot dog during a Chinese New Year reception.
