A new desalination plant in Tangshan, Hebei province in China has started its trial production stage and is reported to cut energy use by 60% compared to conventional plants. Situated in the Caofeidian industrial zone, the facility processes waste brine at a three-to-one ratio, producing 1 tonne of refined concentrated seawater (with salinity of 120 grams per litre) and 2 tonnes of fresh water simultaneously. This innovative technology could address the global issue of discharging highly saline by-products back into the sea, offering a more sustainable solution for desalination waste management.
