Tanzania's Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has emphasized the need for increased foreign direct investment, aiming for $15 billion annually to boost industrialization and create jobs for its young population. Speaking at an investment forum in London, Nchemba highlighted that Tanzania is focusing on cutting costs for businesses, enhancing supply chains, and improving rail and port infrastructure to develop a stronger industrial base. With large offshore gas resources and deposits of minerals crucial for the energy transition, such as copper, lithium, and cobalt, alongside precious metals like gold and diamonds, Tanzania seeks to process these natural resources locally to increase employment opportunities. The UN estimates that 42% of Tanzania's population is under 14 years old, making job creation a pressing issue; Nchemba stressed that empowering the private sector through investment is vital for addressing this challenge.
