As November approaches for the US midterms, Democrats aim to elect at least 100 women to the House of Representatives, a historic milestone. With women leading several key races that could determine control of the House, Democratic leaders are optimistic about reaching or surpassing this goal if they perform well in competitive districts. Currently, Democrats have 97 women in the House, making up approximately 45% of their caucus. This would mark significant progress from when women made up less than 5% of House Democrats in the 1980s. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández of New Mexico, chairwoman of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, expressed confidence in achieving this goal. Democrats are strategically placing female candidates at the forefront of their efforts to regain control of the House; 18 of the party's "Red to Blue" programme candidates are women challenging Republicans in competitive districts.
