Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises, received France’s highest civilian honor, Chevalier de l'Ordre national de la Légion d'Honneur (Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour), from French President Emmanuel Macron. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, this prestigious award recognizes Mittal's significant contributions to strengthening economic ties between India and France, particularly in telecommunications and digital infrastructure. The French Ambassador to India highlighted that Mittal has been fostering these relationships for over three decades since the early days of Airtel in 1992. The insignia will be conferred at a ceremony scheduled for October 28, 2026, at the Ambassade de France (Embassy of France in India) in New Delhi.
