On October 10, 2026, South Australian Police investigated an unexplained infant death at the Tollgate Motel in Glen Osmond. Emergency services were called around 9 AM and found a baby aged under one year old dead inside a motel room; incense was burning to mask the smell. The child's body had reportedly been there for up to a month. Police charged Benjamin Nicholas Houghton, 40, and Yue Ning Lieu, 42, on October 13 with criminal neglect and concealing human remains. They were also remanded in custody until May 2027. The couple had been staying at the motel since early 2026 without any contact with state authorities or health records.
