On Monday morning around 3 am, anchorperson Iqrarul Hassan was reportedly taken from his home in DHA, Lahore, by men in plainclothes who broke into the property. His wife Farah alleged that these individuals were from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and also took her mobile phone along with two of her husband's devices during the incident. Punjab minister Azma Bokhari denied that the police had arrested Hassan, stating that an investigation was underway.
Hassan’s legal counsel, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, stated that NCCIA confirmed they did not arrest him and added that Hassan hadn't made any anti-state remarks. However, a judicial magistrate in Lahore remanded Iqrarul Hassan into the custody of the NCCIA for four days on Tuesday under allegations of disseminating false and defamatory content via his social media accounts. This decision came despite earlier assurances from government officials that they played no role in his apprehension.
