As of October 14, 2026, two men were seriously injured in violent clashes involving up to 12 people armed with weapons in Palumpa, a remote community 350 kilometres southwest of Darwin. One man suffered lacerations to his ankles and the other to his hands; both were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment. A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene. The violence in Palumpa, also known as Nganmarriyanga, follows ongoing unrest in nearby Wadeye, where more than 200 armed individuals fought near Creek Camp earlier that day, prompting police intervention with capsicum spray. Although a direct connection between these incidents is not yet confirmed by NT Police, the communities have had violent conflicts for several months, raising concerns about escalating tit-for-tat violence among Indigenous clans in the region.
