On October 14, 2026, a patient at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, Sydney, Raymond James Dungay, was charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly dousing three fellow patients with petrol and setting one on fire. Emergency services were called to the hospital around 10:45 PM that night following reports of a safety incident. The victims included Randovan Banic (54), who suffered minor burns; a 63-year-old man, and a 64-year-old woman, all with minor injuries. Dungay is also charged with common assault and two counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. He was arrested without applying for bail in court on October 15. Health Minister Ryan Park condemned the attack as "shocking" and launched an urgent review into hospital safety protocols.
