River Jones, one of four men indicted for the 2022 broad-daylight shooting inside a Bronx pharmacy that killed Avanti Frowner, has filed a petition in Bronx Supreme Court demanding $1 million from New York City. Jones claims he sustained serious injuries, including to his head, neck, and face, after slipping in a shower at Rikers Island in December 2025. He was convicted of first-degree gang assault but is up for parole in 2029. Jones was an 18-year-old student at Monroe College when the attack occurred. The petition has raised questions about inmate compensation and safety standards in New York City jails.
