Florida man killed by 12-foot alligator near Orlando while fishing

On October 16, 2026, Steven Hamilton, a 71-year-old fisherman from Winter Garden, Florida, was killed by an alligator while posing for a photograph with a large bass near Lake Apopka at Dr. Bradford Memorial Park, located about 15 miles northwest of Orlando. The attack occurred around 5 p.m. when Hamilton heard the gator approaching and attempted to run but slipped and fell; the alligator then latched onto his left leg and dragged him into the lake.
