Montreal-based startup Alveole has developed Aura, a software tool that tracks biodiversity by monitoring beehive health, pollen counts, and pesticide prevalence. The company uses microphones, cameras, and other sensors to provide real-time data for the 2,200 hives it manages across over 70 cities. Alvéole initially focused on installing beehives on commercial buildings but now offers Aura to help companies understand local biodiversity around their properties. Last year, they installed hives on the sixth-floor rooftop of the Empire State Building, marking a significant expansion in their operations.
