A National Guard member was injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C., near the Eastern Market metro station late Sunday night when attempting to break up a fight. The incident occurred around 11:10 PM when seven or eight Guardsmen monitoring the area from a van were drawn into an altercation that escalated to gunfire. One participant drew a gun and fired after the Guardsmen intervened, resulting in one Guard member being shot in the leg; the shooter was also hit in the abdomen. Both individuals are receiving medical treatment but their injuries are not considered life-threatening. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating and has stated that no immediate threat remains to public safety. This incident follows a similar shooting of two National Guard members near the White House in November 2025, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the city.
