The Colts' trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, made last November in exchange for their 2026 and 2027 first-round picks as well as wide receiver Adonai Mitchell from the Jets, is quickly turning into a disaster. In Sunday's loss to the Colts, Gardner left with a calf injury and did not return; NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that he has a mild calf strain and will be week-to-week. Since joining Indianapolis, Gardner has recorded seven passes defended and 33 tackles without an interception in just over one season. The trade cost the Jets their fourth overall pick in 2023 and a four-year, $120.4 million extension for Gardner, who was drafted by the Jets in 2022 and won Defensive Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-Pro honors in his first two seasons. However, since acquiring him, the Colts have gone just 3-11, compared to their strong performance prior to the trade.
