Waymo plans to significantly expand its self-driving car fleet by borrowing $5 billion from private lenders, aiming to increase its current 4,000 vehicles to 8,000 by the end of this year and further to 20,000 by next year. The company, which operates in 15 US cities including Toronto, San Diego, Tampa, and San Antonio, is also developing a facility in Nashville with Lyft for car maintenance. Waymo has already placed large orders with Chinese automakers like Zeekr, owned by the CCP-linked Geely Holding Group, to support this expansion. Despite declining to comment on specific details, Waymo confirmed it raised funds to expand both domestically and internationally.
