Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has established its Shenzhen Research Institute in China's Shenzhen city to enhance applied research and innovation, connecting industry, academia, and research. The university aims to translate scientific findings into practical applications with limited resources as a self-financing institution. Since last June, the first phase of the institute offers 670 square meters of laboratory space for wet and dry experiments. Plans are underway for two more phases that will add an additional 800 square meters of lab space. The initiative is part of HKMU's broader strategy to expand its research presence in China’s Greater Bay Area, aiming to tackle real-world issues while improving teaching and learning on campus.
