The federal government, in collaboration with New Brunswick’s provincial government, announced a $463 million project to upgrade Port Saint John, aimed at boosting rail, road, and marine infrastructure. The investment includes a new Canada Border Services Agency container examination facility and extensive rail upgrades. Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon stated that the improvements will facilitate easier movement of goods across Canada to international markets. The federal government is contributing $254 million from its 2025 budget’s Trade Diversification Corridor Fund, while New Brunswick is investing $116.5 million, with additional funds coming from other partners. The upgrades are expected to enable the port to handle between 825,000 and one million shipping containers annually along the Atlantic coast.
