Airbnb announced new rules effective November 20 that limit cleaning tasks guests must perform during their stay. Hosts will no longer be allowed to ask guests to strip beds, wash and put away dishes, or take trash offsite, which have been typical complaints from renters. The policy also prohibits hosts from imposing fines on guests and limits the use of separate contracts to circumstances required by law or homeowner association rules. Airbnb states these changes aim to clarify expectations and reduce confusion for both parties. Guests will now see house rules more prominently displayed during booking, with seven standard options available plus additional reasonable requests set by hosts.
