Rogers Communications plans to introduce a 1.6% "credit card processing charge" for customers who pay their bills with credit cards starting January 17, 2027. This move is part of the company's strategy to offset costs associated with payment processing fees from credit card companies, which have increased nearly 40% since 2020 and now cost Rogers approximately $150 million annually. The fee will not apply in Quebec, nor for customers on certain specialized plans or former Shaw Mobile clients who transitioned to Rogers after the acquisition of Shaw Communications in 2023. Other payment methods like direct debit, online banking transfers, cheques, and gift cards remain unaffected by this new charge.
