Michaelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva, a 36-year-old American tourist from Florida, fell approximately 980 feet and died after stepping off a marked path in the Dolomites near Forcella Pordoi, Italy, on October 17, 2026. She was with her family exploring the mountainous area when she left the designated route to reach a panoramic viewpoint for photography. Her sister raised the alarm shortly before 12:30 p.m., and emergency services were promptly dispatched but could not save her. The Forcella Pordoi pass, part of the Sella mountain group in the UNESCO-listed Dolomites, is accessible via cable car but challenging to navigate on foot due to its steepness and loose gravel.
