🔮 I’ve crossed the Atlantic to live in Europe about once a decade: I lived in Paris when I was 20; Oxford when I was 30; and then, at 40, I made a more permanent move, to Sweden, when my Swedish husband and I decided to raise our daughter on his side of the sea.
Coming from car-choked Toronto to fresh-aired Umeå in the summer of 2024, I zoomed over a car-free bridge on a shared electric scooter that I’d unlocked with a tap of my phone and thought, “Damn, I love Europe.”
Because it’s true that Europe is ahead of us in many ways: willingness to innovate on climate technologies; a common-sense assumption that cities should be built for people first and cars second; the widespread attitude that family and the life of the soul is at least as important as work. assertive
